Walking one afternoon on Fleet Street, London watched people returning from work. The combination of the girl (somewhat animated and agitated on the conversation) and the sullen look on the older woman just behind her were somewhat unmissable. Difficult to keep both of them in focus of course, while they are both walking across the field of view.

Thank you Fulcrum35
not only on your sighting
but also your agile subjectivity
when making a decision that this event
was two body languages in opposition!
You read correctly. I can understand
the yellow-bagged lady with coffee
carried high up on her torso
was eaves-dropping and was wishing
the animated cell phone talker was
magically transformed into someone
much older and full of complaints.
I rank this Cell Phone Talker
as high on the scale of
"showing off her youth with exuberance
on the phone".
Thanks Fulcrum35 for being our
London Constituent for this sighting.

Strangely, this works
Uploaded by Akbar Simonse (taking a break) on 25 Apr 08, 1.05AM CST.
This cell phone talker
has willfully put on her
"I'm late for my Square Dance Club"
outfit,
donned her son's backpack
and mounted a neighborhood bike
and took off through the
shopping district
to talk on her cell phone in public.
Strangely, this works.
I have been fooled
by her disguise.
I would give her a high rating
in the use of disguises
to discreetly speak on cell phone in public.
Well Done!

This sighting of cell phone talker
is going to rate high on the Bizarre scale!
Even the Cell phone talker's costumed-character partner
looks stunned. She cannot find an appropriate place
to look since her rabbit in common
is talking on the phone instead of her.
This is a good example of anti-social
cell phone talking. Even the use of a guitar
in one hand does not help.
Poor Rabbit spouse, we sympathize
with your pain.

long hair cell phone talking
Uploaded by Akbar Simonse (taking a break) on 11 May 08, 5.25AM CST.
Now this cell phone talker
is helping the public
with her body language
to assume a position
where her long hair and glasses
can give us, the passerby,
a chance to not notice
that she is on the phone.
Her hand is placed in such
a way that a person might assume
she is leaning her chin on her hand.
The long hair adds to this illusion.
I give her high marks
for unobtrusive Cell phone talking

So pleased that you allowed
free blogging of this post
adaptorplug
since it is such a very important
addition to my work
of studying group responses
to the body language
of cell phone talkers
I don't know what to address first.
Only one of the five security personnel
has their shield down and is on call.
The cell talker has collectively
used her call to actively distract
the other members in her unit.
Also she seems to be enjoying
her choice.
All these things makes the body language
of this cell phone sighting
quite distressing.
On the one hand, they are having fun.
But on the other hand, safety isn't supposed to be fun.
I would have to rate this behavior
in the category of "one more ice cream cone
before the asteroid hits!"

tight lipped talker

The body language of this
cell phone talker
apologetically makes all of us
watching feel up tight
I know that the reflection
in her sunglasses (shades)
tells us that she is at a restaurant
but it reminds me of the looks
my mother would give me
in church when she wanted me
to stop drawing and start praying
Her body language
rates high on the level of
upsetting passers by

This action shot
leaves something to add
about how a cell phone caller
may have a unique body language
when trying to readjust something
In this photo capture
I don't think it was the strapless dress,
I believe I see a clutch purse
being readjusted.
With that in mind,
I give this cell phone talker
a high rating on discreet use
and another award on looking
graceful while being discreet.
This is one for the text books.

A proper use of a cell phone
A proper use of a cell phone
I caught this from the car at an intersection. Finally someone using a phone in a situation that makes sense. His vehicle had broken down, he had his caution lights on, and was calling for assistance. This is really where a mobile communication device makes sense - and it is amazing that I've caught so many people talking on cell phones in situations that don;t make sense, before finally catching this.

good case in point
Lisle!
This cell phone talker
falls into the middle of our scientific study
somewhere near the 7th percentile.
Callers often use the phone
from inside the car
to get help.
Standing outside of his vehicle and
the fact that he standing pigeon-toed
shows an openness to having
anyone help him.
Good Body Language sighting... Lislie!

unique body language scenario
Well,
for one thing the cell phone talker
is engaged in another visual input
so it is hard
to distinguish which
body language
belongs to which
but
I would say he is preoccupied
and is finding it hard
to talk any further
with the listener on the other end
of the line
definitely,
he is ready to hang up

Thanks Bob, I think you are right.
Obviously this cell phone talker
is keeping quite a pace
but as she walks past the Council Thrift Shop
she remembers that her cleaning lady
could call the thrift store
and have the boxes removed from the back hall
before she gets home.
She checks her watch
because she has only just thought of it
and her cleaning lady leaves at four.

Back in the day...
When times were such that checking out a video at a corner Movie Rental Store was the hippest thing to be into and cell phones were called mobile phones or bag phones and only traveling sales people had them.... we had a bet going in our family.
The first family member that saw, in person, a person talking on a cell phone while riding a bicycle would win the privilege of picking out the fast food restaurant that we would go to the next time we could afford to go out. It took quite a while, maybe a year, before we saw it. It was hooting and hollering time since all three of us were in the car together when Kathryn eye-spied the bike rider talking on a cell phone. It was on the corner of Van Dorn and 56th. I wish I knew the date but it had to be before Myer drove, so it was probably about 1997. That is a guess.
Today while I was visiting Flickr photos for entertainment I came across a great photo of a person talking on the cell phone and the young man, the surroundings and the posture of the head and shoulders emitted an emotion. I was taken with the photo. I commented to the photographer on Flickr that it would be interesting to start a group of photos of people talking on the phone.
Little did I know, when I did a search for all photos downloaded, that there were several hundred photo pools already put together. I put one on slide show and just hooted and hollered at the beautifully bizarre and critically somber photos of people talking on the phone. I decided that it was like a sociological experiment and decided to create a blog with myself as the scientist put in charge of selecting photos and sorting and categorizing them into attributes dealing with daily sights, dramatic moments, dizzy captures, definite voyeurism, delightful photo talking portraits, and extremely rare sightings. I would also be in charge with reading the subject matter and their body language to the best of my poetic ability.
